Spring Way, Paddock Way, Fair View and Shepherds Down

Spring Way/Paddock Way/Fair View/Shepherds Down is currently the only area of Alresford to have already been upgraded to Gigabit Full Fibre Broadband and you can order it now. You can confirm that your address is included by checking with the BT Broadband speed checker - https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com.

This area appears to have been upgraded about 3 years ago as part of the Hampshire Superfast Broadband initiative - although it is not clear why this area was upgraded and the rest of Alresford was not. The result is that, for example, if you are in Shepherd Down you can get up to 1000MBits/s while on the other side of the garden fence, inĀ  Corfe Close, they get less than 10Mbits/s.

It seems also that the upgrade was not well publicised and you only found out about it if you had already registered interest with BT. It is also only available so far from a limited number of suppliers i.e. BT, EE, Idnet, Zen and Aquis. If you use a different ISP then they probably would not have told you.

If you are with (e.g.) BT then you can order the upgrade today. If you are with an ISP that does not yet provide gigabit broadband then you will either have to cancel your contract (assuming you are not out-of-contract) and move to (e.g.) BT or wait until your contract expires and then move to (e.g.) BT.
