Welcome to the campaign for Ultrafast broadband in New Alresford, Hampshire. That is using Full Fibre (FTTP) to bring download speeds of up to 1 GBit/s to the town, and surrounding villages. We are an informal group of residents supported by Alresford Town Council, City and County Councillors that have come together in order take advantage of the grants provided by the UK Government and Hampshire County Council for the deployment of full fibre broadband in rural areas, and to bring ultrafast internet to Alresford. These grants are available to both owner occupiers and tenants who have their own internet service.
It is really important to get Full Fibre Internet in Alresford. Those areas without full fibre broadband are increasingly becoming less desirable "not spots" where houses become difficult to sell and internet services become increasingly difficult to access. Funding is going to the areas that demonstrate a demand for ultrafast internet and if we fail to demonstrate enough interest then we will end up at the back of the queue for many years to come. Wireless 4G/5G services are not an alternative. They have a limited bandwidth shared by all users and the more popular they become the worst the service will get.
Update 19th March 2021: the UK Government has announced Project Gigabit - see this News Article.
